# agentx

> The inventory manager for your agents. View, manage and sync skills, MCP servers and plugins across machines.

`agentx` is a command line tool for the AI agents on your machine. It finds every agent client, such as Claude Code or Cursor, and lists the skills, MCP servers and plugins each one sees. It also installs and updates skills in all of them at once. Run it from a terminal.

## Highlights

* Supports 75 agents. For Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, Gemini CLI, Windsurf and GitHub Copilot it reads skills, MCP servers and plugins; for the others, skills only.
* Installs skills from any git repository into one library, `~/.agents/skills`, and links them into each agent client, so one update reaches every client.
* Shows what you changed in a skill, and can undo it or keep your edits when you update.
* Takes over the skills the vercel skills CLI installed, without reinstalling them.
* Copies this machine's settings to another machine, with a list of the skills to bring back.

## Install

There are no binary releases yet. Build from source with Go 1.27 or later:

agentx also needs `git` 2.40 or later on your `PATH`. Run [`agentx doctor`](/cli/doctor) to check that this machine is ready.

## See what your agents have

List every agent client on this machine and what each one sees:

## Install a skill in every client

Install a skill once, and agentx links it into each client:

## Key terms

* **Agent client**: an AI coding tool that reads skills, such as Claude Code, Codex or Cursor. Its setup directory, such as `~/.claude`, is a **configuration**.
* **Skill**: a directory with a `SKILL.md` file that an agent client can load.
* **Library**: `~/.agents/skills`, the one directory that holds every skill agentx manages.
* **Source**: a git repository that holds one or more skills you install from.
* **Placement**: how a client sees a library skill: a link or copy in its own skills directory, or the library entry itself.
* **Universal client**: a client, such as Codex or Gemini CLI, that reads the library directly and so sees every skill in it.
* **agentx home**: `~/.agentx`, where agentx keeps its own state, including the **account repo**, a git repository that records where each skill came from and which version you installed.
